GERERAL INFORMATION
Tanzania is united of a Tanganyika and Zanzibar. The two states united in 1964 to form the United Republic of Tanganyika and Zanzibar, which later the same year was renamed the United Republic of Tanzania. In Swahili "Jamuhuri ya Muungano wa Tanzania" means The United Republic of Tanzania . in central East Africa bordered by Kenya and Uganda to the north, Rwanda, Burundi and the Democratic Republic of the Congo to the west, and Zambia, Malawi, and Mozambique to the south. The country's eastern borders lie on the Indian Ocean. The capital city is Dodoma.

Information for visitors to Tanzania are required to have a valid passport and entry visa. These are obtainable from Tanzania High Commission. visas may be issued on arrival; however it is best to consult your Airline agent before making definite departure plans or nearest Tanzania High Commission or Tanzania Consolidate.

Tanzania information on major foreign currencies use in Tanzania - particularly US$ Dollar, GB£ Pound and Euro € - and US$ Dollar travellers cheques are accepted and are convertible at banks and bureau de changes in the main town, and tourist areas at better exchange rates. Credit cards are not widely accepted in Tanzania and carry poor exchange rates and bank surcharges for any credit card transaction can varied from 5% to 6%. Few banks offer ATM facilities In Tanzania. Visitors to Tanzania may be expected to pay in US$ currency for game parks entry fees and for tour package. Don't change money in the street always use official Bureau De Change.

Tanzania generally dry and hot country tropical with cool nights/mornings, April to June Its Green season in Tanzania, July to October dry season, Some times end of October is short rains, End of November to December, January, February and March dry season, but the season can vary in Tanzania. The coastal strip of Tanzania which is Dar es Salaam, Zanzibar Island and Mafia Island Its hot and humid all year round. Temperatures on Mount Kilimanjaro and Mount Meru drop to below freezing temperature.

Cloths:
Pack lightweight, washable cloths plus a sweater for early morning game drives, a sun hat, sunglasses and sunscreen. Long sleeves and trousers in light-colour fabrics help discourage insect bites. Shorts for women are acceptable (but not too short). Women should carry a wrap to cover legs in the village and towns as revealing cloths can cause offence, especially in Zanzibar and Muslim areas. On the beach and within the confines of beach hotels normal swim wear (but not nudity) is acceptable. For climbing on Kilimanjaro and Meru, take thermal underwear, light layers, sweater, rain jacket, good socks and sturdy boots.

Baggage:
Baggage on Tanzania safari is limited to one soft sided bag, plus one small piece of hang baggage per person (excluding a camera bag). In total this should not weight more then 16kg. Suitcases and other heavier items can be stored in city hotels whilst clients are on safari.

Photography in Tanzania:
Bring film and batteries for your camera with you. Protect your camera from dust and keep equipment and film cool. It is courteous to ask permission before you photographing local people. If you intend to take a lot of people pictures, be sure to bring an instant camera with you so that you can leave a picture with people you photograph.

Tanzania Electricity:
50Hz - 230v, but power failures, surges and troughs are common. Bring a universal adaptor and a torch (flashlight) or headlamp.

Not obligatory, but a tip for exceptional service (max 10%) will be appreciated,

To Assistant guide from US$15.00 - US$20.00 per day.

Shopping in Tanzania:
The Tourist areas and hotels sell a wide range of souvenirs, jewellery and trinkets. Don't be afraid to haggle at roadside stalls (Your driver/ guide will guide you were to shop and advice you on the right price) the best known souvenirs are wood carvings, curios, and famous love stove which is a well known gem stone in the world "Tanzanite" available widely at souvenirs shops.

Security in Tanzania:
Tanzania is a generally safe and friendly country but don't be invite temptation. Keep your eye on your belongings. Don't walk in the towns or cites at night - take a Taxi. Don't carry valuables, cameras or large amounts of cash, beware of pickpockets and hawkers. Use hotel safety deposit boxes to safeguard valuables and obtain a receipt. Leave valuable jewellery at home.
